ATMO-ACCESS Call for Pilot Training TNA - Autumn School: Drones & sensors in Atmospheric sciences
Opens Jun 24 2024 12:00 (CEST)
Deadline Jul 26 2024 17:00 (CEST)
Description

ATMO-ACCESS supports innovative training and education activities related to atmospheric research infrastructures. The Autumn School on Sensors & Drones in Atmospheric Sciences (11 November – 15 November 2024) is the second pilot session to add the training dimension to Research Infrastructures using physical, remote, and virtual access.

The school will focus on the operation and scientific exploitation of sensor systems used in urban and remote areas for ground-based applications and on drones. The course part on sensors will be mainly held at the Laboratory for Air Pollution and Environmental Technology of the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology, Empa campus near Zurich, Switzerland.

The course part on drones will be mainly held by the Center of Excellence for Climate and Atmosphere Research (CARE-C) of the Cyprus Institute in Nicosia, Cyprus. The two courses are connected in hybrid mode. In this way, participants have the unique chance to learn about both techniques independently and on their interconnection.

This intensive course is suitable for both M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in atmospheric and Earth system sciences working with sensor data from atmospheric variables, related to climate change and air pollution. Good communication skills in English are required.

The number of participants is limited. Eligible applications are selected by an independent selection panel considering the scientific/learning objectives and motivation and the applicant's background. Access is provided for users with no charges for the lectures or expert support. Transnational users may benefit from a contribution to support some of their accommodation and travel costs for their physical access component. The call will be open until July 26th, 2024.

ATMO-ACCESS promotes gender equality in scientific research and specifically encourages applications from women.
